About Gastric Sleeve Weight Loss Surgery

A popular procedure with dramatic results.

Gastric sleeve surgery is one of the most popular weight loss procedures in the world. And with good reason – it’s been life-changing and transformative for our patients on their journey towards feeling better.

The idea behind gastric sleeve weight loss surgery is straightforward: it involves reducing the size of your stomach without affecting how your stomach naturally functions. The results are that you eat less, you feel fuller much faster, and you experience dramatic weight loss.

How Gastric Sleeve Surgery Helps You Lose Weight

The procedure works by removing a significant portion of your stomach – with minimum effect on the digestive process. The now-reduced stomach area then resembles a sleeve, thus the name of the surgery.

BENEFITS

Reduce your food intake, reduce your cravings.

How Gastric Sleeve Surgery is Performed

A unique dual-surgeon approach in our state-of-the-art clinic.

Step One:

The patient is given general anesthesia to ensure they are asleep and pain-free during the procedure.

Step Two:

The surgeon makes several small incisions in the abdomen and inserts a laparoscope (a small camera) along with other surgical instruments through these incisions.

Step Three:

Next, our surgeons use the video feed to remove a portion of the stomach and staple the remainder of the stomach into a sleeve shape. To accomplish this with precision, we use a Smart Stapling system, which is a device that measures the thickness of the tissue and simultaneously separates, cuts, and staples with three lines of interlaced titanium staples. This creates a remarkably strong, leakproof hold. Plus, the titanium staples are MRI safe.

Step Four:

Finally, the excised portion of the stomach along with the camera and instruments are removed, and the incisions in the abdomen are sutured. The entire surgery takes about 1.5 hours to perform, and the recovery period is typically just a few hours. Most patients go home the same day.
